Vice-Premier Liu Yandong urged the integration of military and civil industries for innovation-driven development, in order to make breakthroughs in the building of a science and technology city in Mianyang, in Southwest China’s Sichuan province.
Liu made the remarks while attending a meeting of the inter-ministry coordination group on Sept 16. She called on all to put in effort in building an innovation-driven, strong science and technology power country.
The vice-premier said Mianyang city has made active progress in promoting military and civil integration and industrial revolution. Alongside the new industrial, military and global science revolutions, the establishment of an S&T city in Mianyang should take global conditions and national development trends into account, to better serve major national initiatives — such as innovation-driven development, integration of military and civil industry, she said.
She urged all to focus on cutting-edge technologies, pay attention to original technological innovations and cultivate high-end talents. The vice-premier also asked to promote resource sharing, optimize industry distribution and strengthen the coordination of the governments at the ministry, provincial and city levels.
