Vice-Premier Liu He said more should be done to improve government work in the industrial and information sectors.

He made the remarks during a visit to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on April 17.

Liu said the Chinese government highly values the real economy and the manufacturing industry, areas in which the MIIT has made remarkable achievements.

The vice-premier urged the ministry to make the development of competitive manufacturing and building of a modern economic system its top priority.

The MIIT should speed up transformation of functions, improve coordination with the market, create a level playing field and help enhance core competitiveness of industries while addressing weaknesses that hinder industrial development, he said.

He also called for the ministry to enhance its sense of responsibility, and work hard for a country with greater manufacturing and cyberspace industries.
