Vice-Premier Hu Chunhua stressed poverty alleviation in extremely poor regions during a visit to Southwest China’s Yunnan province on June 14 and 15.

Hu toured poverty alleviation projects and spoke with local officials and people in villages of Zhaotong, a city where many places are troubled by poverty.

He said more resources must be put to fight extreme poverty, improve infrastructure and public services in poor areas, and develop specific industries.

The government should also inspire poor people to work hard and get rid of poverty by themselves.
