BEIJING — Vice-Premier Han Zheng stressed the importance of the implementation of the country’s fourth national economic census at a meeting held on July 19.

One key task is to improve the quality of census data so as to offer comprehensive insights into the scale, structure, and performance of China’s industrial and tertiary sectors, said Han, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and head of a leading group overseeing the census.

Accurate assessment should also be made on the conditions of new industries and new business models in new areas, he added.

Han also called for the establishment of a quality control system for the whole census process.

The fourth census, set to thoroughly gauge China’s latest economic conditions, will help China deepen its supply-side structural reforms and facilitate high-quality development, the vice-premier said.

China will launch the fourth national economic census this year covering about 30 million impersonal entities and industrial activity units as well as about 60 million self-employed entrepreneurs.
