Vice-Premier Hu Chunhua, also chief of the State Council leading group of poverty alleviation and development, made an inspection tour in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region from April 18 to 20.
Kashgar and Kezilesu Kirgiz autonomous prefectures are regions inhabited by minority nationalities in abject poverty in border areas, which call for considerable efforts to shake off poverty.
Hu learned about people's living conditions while visiting poverty-stricken villages, enterprises and relocation sites for impoverished residents, and presided over a symposium afterwards.
Poverty alleviation work eyes an all-around victory, with all the related policies and measures fully implemented, Hu said. And towns and villages plagued by abject poverty call for stringent supervision and duty fulfillment of all departments concerned.
A monitoring mechanism preventing people from returning to poverty and a supporting mechanism should be established and improved, Hu said.
With the COVID-19 impact under control and interdepartmental coordination in place, local employment, consumption for poverty relief and related projects should proceed in a favorable manner.
Impoverished residents, after being relocated, need further support and booming industries to achieve prosperity.
