LANZHOU — Hu Chunhua, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, has called for efforts to consolidate and expand the country's achievements in poverty alleviation and guarantee a smooth transition into rural vitalization.
Hu, also head of the State Council leading group of poverty alleviation and development, made the remarks during an inspection tour to Northwest China's Gansu province from Nov 12 to Nov 15.
Hu urged local authorities to make plans to consolidate the poverty relief results and support regions that have been lifted out of poverty to seek progress in rural vitalization.
Gansu is among the provinces that face the most daunting tasks of poverty alleviation. During the inspection tour, Hu visited farmers' cooperatives and planting and breeding bases to learn about industrial development, follow-up assistance to the relocated people, and rural development.
He stressed the need to promote the development of industries with regional characteristics and improve the social security and relief system in rural areas to ensure the basic living conditions for low-income rural residents.
Hu called for studying and formulating targeted policies to support industrial development, employment, entrepreneurship, infrastructure and public service construction in rural areas.
