BEIJING — China published a list of 51 mass organizations that are not registered on the Chinese mainland, adding to the list of 1,135 announced earlier, according to a Ministry of Civil Affairs (MCA) statement released on Aug 16.

Lots of them have high-sounding names such as the “China Health Food Association” and the “Chinese Health Management Association.”

Some of these mass organizations are involved in fraudulent activities.

Under Chinese law, setting up such organizations on the Chinese mainland requires approval and registration by civil affairs departments. If words such as “China,” “National” or “All-China” appear in the name, further assessment and approval from the civil affairs departments are mandatory.

The ministry will continue to update the list of such organizations.
