Chinese mainland reports no new locally-transmitted COVID-19 cases

BEIJING — No new locally-transmitted COVID-19 cases were reported on Aug 25 across the Chinese mainland, the National Health Commission said on Aug 26.

A total of 15 confirmed cases arriving from outside the mainland were reported on Aug 25, the commission said in its daily report.

No new suspected cases or deaths related to the disease were reported on the mainland, it added.

Of the new imported cases, five were reported in Sichuan, four each in Shanghai and Guangdong, and one each in Tianjin and Yunnan, the commission said.

On Aug 25, 54 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery, the commission said.

By the end of Aug 25, a total of 2,447 imported cases had been reported on the mainland. Of them, 2,229 had been discharged from hospitals after recovery, and 218 remained hospitalized, with three in severe conditions. No deaths from the imported cases had been reported.

As of Aug 25, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland had reached 84,996, including 347 patients who were still being treated, with seven in severe conditions.

Altogether 80,015 people had been discharged after recovery, and 4,634 had died of the disease on the mainland, the commission said.

There were currently no suspected COVID-19 cases on the mainland, it added.

According to the commission, 11,915 close contacts were still under medical observation after 1,249 were discharged on Aug 25.

Also on Aug 25, 14 new asymptomatic cases, all arriving from outside the mainland, were reported.

The commission said 365 asymptomatic cases, including 311 from outside the mainland, were still under medical observation.

By Aug 25, 4,710 confirmed cases, including 78 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 46 cases in the Macao SAR, and 487 cases, including seven deaths, in Taiwan.

A total of 4,108 COVID-19 patients in the Hong Kong SAR, 46 in the Macao SAR, and 457 in Taiwan, had been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
