Chinese mainland reports 24 imported COVID-19 cases

BEIJING — The Chinese mainland on May 20 reported 24 new COVID-19 cases, all of which were imported, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on May 21.

Of the cases, 11 were reported in Fujian, nine in Shanghai, and one each in Henan, Hunan, Guangdong and Sichuan.

No new suspected cases and no new deaths related to COVID-19 were reported on May 20, the commission said.

A total of 5,925 imported cases had been reported on the mainland by the end of May 20. Among them, 5,654 had been discharged from hospitals following recovery, and 271 remained hospitalized. No deaths had been reported among the imported cases.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland reached 90,944 by May 20, including 303 patients still receiving treatment, five of whom were in severe condition.

A total of 86,005 patients had been discharged from hospitals following recovery on the mainland, and 4,636 had died as a result of the virus.

There was one suspected COVID-19 case on the mainland on May 20.

A total of 25 asymptomatic cases were newly reported, and 23 of them arrived from outside the mainland. There were a total of 364 asymptomatic cases, of whom 344 were imported, under medical observation by May 20.

By the end of May 20, 11,828 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 210 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), while 50 cases had been reported in the Macao SAR, and 2,825 cases, including 15 deaths, had been reported in Taiwan.

A total of 11,542 COVID-19 patients in the Hong Kong SAR had been discharged from hospitals following recovery, while 49 had been discharged in the Macao SAR, and 1,133 had been discharged in Taiwan.
