State councilors joined deputies in group deliberation to review the 2020 Government Work Report at the third session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) in Beijing on May 22.

State Councilor and Secretary-General of the State Council Xiao Jie attended a panel discussion with deputies from South China’s Hainan province.

The state councilor said he was all for the report delivered by Premier Li Keqiang, saying the country has yielded major strategic results in its response to the COVID-19 epidemic.

He called for follow-up efforts to seek epidemic prevention and control and socio-economic development simultaneously, and ensure a decisive victory in eradicating poverty and building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.

State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Zhao Kezhi attended a panel discussion with deputies from Southwest China’s Tibet autonomous region.

While summing up China’s accomplishments in advancing social and economic development last year, as well as epidemic control and prevention work so far, the report clearly set overall requirements for socio-economic progress in 2020 through a profound analysis of difficulties and problems the country is facing in development, Zhao said.

Through concerted efforts to follow the decisions made by the Communist Party of China Central Committee, China absolutely will be able to minimize the losses caused by the epidemic, maintain stable economic and social development, secure a decisive victory in achieving the goal of poverty eradication, and complete the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects, he said.
