BEIJING-- Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun on Monday told Chinese police to step up anti-terrorism measures and be prepared to cope with various risks and challenges “at any given time”.

Guo stressed that the police must fully realize the role of stability in ensuring the country’s reform, development and people’s happiness.

“Work on intelligence and information gathering should be strengthened to take precautions, strike first and nip security risks in the bud,” said Guo, also a state councilor and leader of the national anti-terrorism leadership group, at a national police meeting.

According to the minister, rewards will be offered to whistleblowers concerning violence and terrorist cases, and cyberspace management will be intensified to prevent religious extremists from instigating crimes.
