The authorities should make efforts to ensure the implementation of various security measures during the two sessions, especially focusing on the security “moat” project in Beijing’s surrounding areas.

State Councilor Guo Shengkun made the comments during a visit to Hebei province from Feb 28 to March 1.

Guo visited a motorway checkpoint and the headquarters of the security “moat” at the public security department under the Hebei government.

He requested that the local authorities should strengthen cross-regional police cooperation and carry out their responsibilities - especially concerning safety inspections.

He also asked the authorities to improve the effectiveness of law enforcement so as to provide added convenience for the local population, and to do their utmost to reduce the negative impact on people’s lives.

Guo also met local police at the grassroots level so as to increase his understanding - in order to help improve public safety.
