State Councilor and Public Security Minister Guo Shengkun ordered police forces to take part in fire fighting and rescue efforts following an explosion at a chemical plant in Zhangzhou, South China’s Fujian province. He also called for measures to prevent any secondary disasters.

The explosion, at a plant producing PX (paraxylene) in the Zhangzhou Gulei Port Economy Development Zone, occurred at about 19:00 on April 6. A total of six people are being treated at a local hospital, and the fire has not yet been extinguished.
