State Councilor Guo Shengkun urged cadres of political and legal departments to play a leading role as China comprehensively promotes the rule of law.

Guo, who is also minister of public security, made the remarks on May 10 in Beijing when he attended the closing ceremony of a seminar attended by political and legal cadres.

The cadres should further improve their work philosophy and ability, and strive to be cited as models amid the country’s drive of governance according to law, he said.

He asked the officials to change practices that may have become habit forming but are not consistent with a law-ruled system.

Efforts should be undertaken to turn the working requirements of the central government into effective mechanisms and put the requirements into place, Guo said.
