State Councilor Wang Yong emphasized that more efforts should be made to advance the development of affairs of the disabled, while addressing the High-Level Intergovernmental Meeting on the Midpoint Review of the Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities (2013-22) on Nov 30 in Beijing.
Wang urged more attention to enhancing the well-being of the disabled, which should be centered on practical matters that concern their immediate interests.
The government ought to lift the disabled out of poverty with unswerving efforts, strengthen public services and social security for this community, and construct a level playing field to propel their social participation, Wang added. These efforts will be conducive to and uphold the self-fulfillment, happiness, and security of the disabled.
China will continue supporting UN’s international programs for the disabled and consolidate its cooperation with nations along the Belt and Road in this area, Wang said.
