China, Afghanistan to bolster military cooperation

State Councilor and Defense Minister Chang Wanquan met with his Afghan counterpart, Tariq Shah Bahrami, on Dec 26 in Beijing.

Chang fully affirmed the frequent high-level exchanges between the two countries and the expanding ties in business and trade over the past few years, featuring the progress made by both parties in constructing the Belt and Road Initiative.

Chang extended China’s aspirations for further enhanced military cooperation, especially on anti-terrorism and national security, in a bid to safeguard the long-term security and stability of both countries and contribute to the growing China-Afghanistan strategic partnership.

Bahrami echoed Chang’s remarks and articulated Afghanistan’s hopes for reinforced military cooperation.
