Noting that China and the United States will mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the past practices prove that the common interests of the two countries are far greater than their differences, and cooperation is the only correct choice for China and the US.

Wang made the remarks on Nov 8 while meeting with former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in Beijing.

China advocates the principle of no conflict or confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation amid the current clamor around the US policies toward China, Wang said.

This is what the two sides have experienced over the four decades of relations, and also the direction they are jointly working toward, he added.

Regarding the current differences in trade, China stands for a proper settlement based on rules and consensus through dialogue and consultation on an equal footing, said Wang.

Kissinger also disagreed with the idea of using China as an opponent.

He said both countries are two important powers, and US-China relations are of vital importance to both countries and the world.

It is necessary for both sides to view the relations from a broader perspective and to establish basic compliance for the long-term stable development of US-China ties, Kissinger added.
