Wang Yi meets with Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi of Indonesia

On April 24, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi of Indonesia, who was accompanying Vice-President Jusuf Kalla of Indonesia for the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in China.

Wang Yi congratulated Indonesia on its smooth national election. Wang Yi said that Indonesia is China’s friendly neighbor and comprehensive strategic partner. The Chinese side hopes and believes that Indonesia will continue to maintain stability and development. Indonesia is the place where the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road was first initiated and also an important partner of the Chinese side in jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative. The two sides have conducted fruitful cooperation. It is believed that Vice-President Jusuf Kalla’s attendance at the forum will facilitate Indonesia’s deeper participation in the Belt and Road Initiative and open up brighter prospects for China-Indonesia relations and cooperation in various fields. China attaches great importance to Indonesia’s position and role in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and is ready to work with Indonesia to push China-ASEAN relations to a new level.

Retno Marsudi said that Indonesia attaches great importance to the Belt and Road Initiative and looks forward to promoting the strategic partnership between Indonesia and China through this platform. Indonesia hopes to expand bilateral trade and investment and export more high-quality fruits and agricultural products to China. Indonesia is ready to strengthen cooperation with the Chinese side under the ASEAN framework and intensify coordination and cooperation under the United Nations Security Council and other multilateral frameworks.
