Updated: Sep 08,2021 11:33

Vice-Premier Sun Chunlan called for efforts to complete the organization and preparation work of the 14th National Games with high quality as scheduled, ensuring a spectacular and successful sporting event when inspecting Xi’an city of Northwest Shaanxi province from Sept 6 to 7.

Sun, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, visited venues as well as the athletes village, command center and transportation sites of the games, and learned about preparation work in COVID-19 preventive measures, event organization, service guarantees, and the opening and closing ceremonies in Xi’an.

With joint efforts from all parties, the games’ preparation work is underway smoothly amid pandemic control and prevention. Sun noted that strict measures including closed-end management should be implemented at key sites such as the athletes village, requiring point-to-point transportation of athletes, coaches and technical officials, and strengthening the check on inoculation and nucleic acid testing results.

COVID-19 prevention and control work at key sites such as airports, railway stations, passenger stations, hotels and scenic spots should be intensified and measures including temperature checks, health QR code scanning, and disinfection should be carried out strictly, Sun stressed.

She underlined that events such as opening and closing ceremonies, and torch relays should be well-organized to ensure the games are held in an efficient, safe and orderly way, and any doping must be prohibited.

Sun stressed quality services in the accommodation, catering, transportation and medical care sectors. A highly efficient system that combines the games with running in the city should be established in an effort to try to reduce the impact on residents, she said, calling for preventing and defusing risks promptly and appropriately to ensure a splendid opening ceremony.

She also called for taking the opportunity of the games to popularize appropriate exercise and drive more people to participate in physical activity.
