Vice-premier meets Venezuelan economy chief

BEIJING — Vice-Premier Zhang Gaoli met with Venezuela’s top economic policymaker, Rodolfo Marco Torres on Dec 4.

During the meeting at Zhongnanhai in Beijing, the headquarters of the Chinese government, Zhang said the two sides should advance cooperation in the areas of energy, mineral resources, agriculture, infrastructure and high technology to a new stage.

Torres, who was appointed Vice-President of Economy and Finance by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in September, is in Beijing for a visit to China.

During the meeting with Zhang, Torres expressed the wish to lift bilateral cooperation to a new level.

Zhang said that during President Xi Jinping’s visit to Venezuela in July, the two sides decided to upgrade bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, ushering in a new era of bilateral cooperation.

Zhang said the two countries should earnestly implement the consensus that the two heads of state reached so as to promote common development and achieve mutual benefit.

Zhang pointed out that China-Venezuela relations have seen strong growth over the past few years. He said the two countries have become good friends with mutual trust and good partners in mutually beneficial cooperation.

Torres spoke highly of the achievements that the two countries have made in cooperation in all areas. He said he hopes the two countries can strengthen their ties and jointly shape the direction of future development.
