BEIJING — Vice-Premier Liu Yandong on Dec 17 met with visiting former US secretary of state Madeleine K. Albright.

Hailing stable China-US relations, close mutual contacts and new progress on bilateral cooperation, Liu called for the two sides to further pragmatic cooperation, deepen people-to-people exchanges and enhance mutual strategic trust so as to build a new type of major-country relationship.

Albright said she is willing to play an active role in promoting US-China relations and cooperation in various fields.

Albright served as US secretary of state from 1997 to 2001.
