China and Kazakhstan pledged greater policy coordination on Aug 25 to boost industrial capacity cooperation, trade and connectivity.

The pledge was made at the seventh meeting of the China-Kazakhstan Cooperation Committee in Beijing, co-hosted by Vice-Premier Zhang Gaoli and Kazakhstan’s First Deputy Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev.

“This session aims at advancing bilateral cooperation in multiple areas, which has been agreed upon by leaders of both countries, and preparing for a leaders’ meeting soon,” Zhang said.

“As an all-round, high-level and institutionalized platform, the cooperation committee has played an important role in facilitating the development of China-Kazakhstan relations,” he added.

The meeting highlighted the importance of both countries to establish a joint working group to connect the Silk Road Economic Belt with Kazakhstan’s new economic policy Nurly Zhol (Path to the Future). Both governments hope to sign an agreement on cooperation regarding industrial capacity and investment, and push bilateral trade to $40 billion as soon as possible.

Sagintayev said Kazakhstan is willing to work closely with Chinese counterparts to maintain the high-quality bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership.

The two neighbors also agreed to improve infrastructure to boost connectivity and economic exchanges in bordering regions.
