Vice-premier meets Pakistani president on ties

BEIJING — Vice-Premier Zhang Gaoli met with Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain on Sept 3, vowing to further enhance economic ties with Pakistan.

Zhang told Hussain, who is in Beijing for commemoration marking the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, that China is willing to work with Pakistan to fully implement the consensus reached by him and President Xi Jinping during their meetings in April in Pakistan and on Sept 2 in Beijing.

Zhang said China will take the opportunity of the construction of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, put emphasis on cooperation on the Gwadar Port, energy, industry and transportation infrastructure construction, align the Belt and Road Initiative with Pakistani development plan so as to promote the common prosperity of the two countries.

Hussain congratulated China on the successful V-Day commemorative events, pledging to further advance relationship with China in all areas.

China held a grand celebration in central Beijing on the morning of Sept 3, including a military parade attended by about 12,000 servicemen and women, World War II veterans and nearly 1,000 foreign troops from 17 other countries.

A total of 500 pieces of equipment marched through Tian’anmen Square, with nearly 200 aircraft flying overhead.
