BEIJING — Vice-Premier Zhang Gaoli met with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in Beijing on Sept 15.

Zhang welcomed Phuc to attend the 12th China-ASEAN Expo and the China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit, which are scheduled from Sept 18 to 21 in Nanning, capital of South China’s Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

This year marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of China-Vietnam diplomatic ties, said Zhang, suggesting the two sides enhance party-to-party exchanges and strategic communication, to ensure the sustainable, healthy and stable development of bilateral relations.

Zhang urged both sides to boost cooperation in maritime, land and finance, a strategy which was agreed on by the two countries in 2013 to enhance their partnership.

He called for an alignment between China’ s “Belt and Road” Initiative and Vietnam’s “Two Corridors and One Economic Circle” plan, in order to promote bilateral cooperation in areas such as industrial capacity, construction of cross-border economic cooperation zones, trade, infrastructure and investment.

He also suggested the two sides properly manage and control their differences, safeguard stability at sea, and push forward maritime cooperation.

Phuc said Vietnam always attached great importance to developing relations with China.

Vietnam is ready to work with China to maintain high-level contact, enhance political mutual trust and cultural exchanges, deepen pragmatic cooperation, and manage and control disparities, he said.

After the talks, Zhang and Phuc witnessed the signing of a number of cooperative documents.
