Vice-Premier Liu Yandong has urged governments at all levels to expand the successes of the healthcare reform and strengthen the reform on health insurance, medical care and medicine to establish China’s own healthcare system, improving people’s health.

She made the remarks during a recent visit to Southeast China’s Fujian province.

The vice-premier visited local hospitals at county level, village clinics and medical insurance management departments, and inquired about local medical reform work with grassroots medical staff, patients and management personnel.

Liu said Fujian province has focused on the reform of health insurance system, and pushed forward the reform of drug bidding and public hospitals. She also called on all the regions nationwide to learn from Fujian according to their own conditions.

Liu then presided over a meeting on medical reform in Fuzhou, capital city of Fujian. The vice-premier said since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012, the medical reform has achieved fruitful results in establishing an information network covering more than 1.3 billion people, carrying out a tiered diagnosis and treatment model, and canceling the drug price markups.

All the regions and departments should make efforts to expand successes of medical reform, promote the tiered diagnosis and treatment model, and contracted family doctor services to provide better medical services for the people, she said.

Liu also urged to comprehensively end the practice of drug price markups, guarantee transparent purchase of high-price medical equipment and the supply of medicine in short supply.

She then stressed working toward building a modern hospital management system, streamlining diagnosis and treatment procedure, and creating a sound hospital environment.

She also called for speeding up healthcare payment reform so as to insure medical costs can be settled directly when incurred in different places and to provide better healthcare services for the people.

Liu urged all the regions and departments to guarantee the completion of this year’s health reform tasks.
