Greek PM, vice-premier meet on Belt and Road cooperation

ATHENS — Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras met visiting Vice-Premier Ma Kai on Dec 8 with the two sides vowing to strength their cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative.

Tsipras congratulated the success of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China held in October. He said Greece fully supports China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, and wishes to strengthen its cooperation with China in all fields.

The Greek prime minster welcomes more Chinese enterprises to Greece for economic, trade and investment cooperation.

On his part, Ma said the political mutual trust between the two countries continues to deepen, and bilateral cooperation yields fruitful results. He said the two countries support each other on key issues, and China-Greece comprehensive strategic partnership maintains a good momentum of development.

The vice-premier said China is willing to enhance the high-level exchanges and integration of the Belt and Road Initiative with Greece’s development strategy. He said the two countries should join hands to push forward the cooperation in energy, transportation, telecommunications, culture and other key sectors under the 2017-2019 Greece-China Action Plan.

Ma said the two sides should take the 45th anniversary of China-Greece diplomatic relations as an opportunity to further promote bilateral ties.

The vice-premier said China highly appreciates Greece’s contribution to healthy China-EU relations and the two countries should work together to steer the China-EU ties toward greater success.

During his stay in Greece, Ma also held talks with Greek Deputy Prime Minister Yiannis Dragasakis and inspected China COSCO Shipping’s Piraeus Port project.
