BEIJING — Vice-Premier Wang Yang on Jan 23 declared the country’s third national agriculture census a complete success after three years of work.

Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China, urged departments involved to make full use of the information in analysis of developments in agriculture, farmers and rural areas, to contribute to the revitalization of the countryside.

Work still needs to be done on a database and survey techniques to improve data quality, said Wang.

Agricultural surveys have been conducted every 10 years since 1996 to collect information on rural production, infrastructure, public services and living conditions.

The third census involved 5 million interviewees, more than 200 million rural households, and over 3 million businesses and other market entities.
