At a symposium on Feb 6, Vice-Premier Liu Yandong urged expanding cultural exchanges with foreign countries as a foundation to develop global partnerships.

Liu said cultural exchanges should be integrated with economic cooperation and strategic mutual trust, turning public opinion favorable on friendships between China and foreign countries.

Cultural exchanges should be diversified, to be led by high-level diplomacy and driven by both bilateral and multilateral mechanisms, she said.

She also urged enhancing participation by more ordinary people in the cultural exchanges, especially young adults and teenagers, and by a variety of social sectors, including academic circles, culture, businesses, the media and think tanks.
