Vice-Premier Hu Chunhua, who also heads the leading group on poverty alleviation and development at the State Council, inspected the poverty relief work in Ganzhou city, East China’s Jiangxi province, from Feb 27 to 28.
During the inspection tour in Ganzhou, an old revolutionary base in abject poverty, he followed up with local poverty alleviation work, such as poverty reduction through industrial development and employment, shantytown renovation, and drinking water purification.
He urged substantial efforts to address problems that used to be beyond the means of residents in the impoverished regions, including adequate food and clothing, compulsory education, basic medical services, and housing.
Targeted poverty alleviation mode, he said, should come into full play in this regard, with industrial development and employment staying on top of the government’s agenda.
In addition, featured industries in rural areas should cater to the demands of the market.
