State Councilor Wang Yong read a congratulatory letter from President Xi Jinping and gave a speech at the 2019 World New Energy Vehicle Congress on July 2 in Boao, South China’s Hainan province, calling for the new energy vehicle industry to develop in a more coordinated and sustainable way with higher quality.

He said that President Xi’s letter, a significant guide for further technological innovation, industrial development, and international exchanges and cooperation in this field, has fully reflected the great importance the Chinese government attached to green ecology, environmental protection and the new energy vehicle industry.

Wang pointed out that China’s NEV industry has entered a critical period of transformation and upgrading, for which he stressed the importance of overall planning, scientific and technological research and development, the promotion of technological applications, and a better policy environment.

Battery technology, such as next-generation lithium batteries and fuel cells, should be advanced to substantially improve battery safety, reliability and stability, said Wang. In addition, facilities for charging and hydrogen filling should be increased.

New energy vehicles should be developed in coordination with smart power grids, smart transportation and smart cities as part of the industrial integration, he added.

He also called for efforts to continuously optimize the environment as well as the policy system supporting the development of the NEV industry.

Moreover, international exchanges and win-win cooperation in the industry should be promoted with openness to benefit people around the world.
