BEIJING — China and Japan will hold their eighth round of high-level consultations on maritime affairs in Shanghai on Dec 5 and 6, a foreign ministry spokesperson said on Dec 4.

Officials from the foreign ministries, defense ministries, maritime law enforcement and management departments of both sides will attend the talks, spokesperson Geng Shuang told a routine news briefing.

China expects to fully exchange views with Japan on maritime issues of common concern, in a bid to strengthen understanding and mutual trust, Geng said.

The China-Japan High-level Consultations on Maritime Affairs were set up in 2012. The last round of consultations was held in Fukuoka, Japan in June this year.
