China to launch nationwide inspection over policy implementation

BEIJING — China’s cabinet will launch a nationwide inspection over the implementation of major policies to ensure that the country achieves its annual economic and social development goals.

The State Council has announced that inspectors will examine the work of regions and government departments with focuses on six areas, including progress on the “three tough battles,” namely defusing major risks, poverty alleviation and pollution control.

The inspection will also cover the implementation of the rural vitalization strategy, as well as the work to advance innovation-driven development, transform government function, expand domestic demand, pursue high-level opening-up and improve people’s livelihood.

The inspection will start in late August, according to the State Council.

China is aiming for economic expansion of around 6.5 percent this year, unchanged from 2017. The economy grew 6.8 percent year-on-year in the first quarter.
