Premier Li Keqiang called for greater cooperation between China and Indonesia on March 27 as both nations are highly complementary in terms of industrialization.

Speaking at Indonesia-China Economic Cooperation Forum, the Premier said China and Indonesia, both populous countries with huge market potential, should cooperate further by introducing Beijing’s advanced spare capacity in pushing forward Jakarta’s infrastructure construction.

Both the Premier and Indonesian President Joko Widodo, who is in China for a state visit and to attend the 2015 Boao Forum for Asia, addressed the forum.

“It is a good thing to combine China’s capital and technology advantages with Indonesia’s market and resources,” Li said.

He also said that the government encourages Chinese enterprises to step up investment in Indonesia.

Widodo said Indonesia, with a huge demand for infrastructure and establishment of industrial parks, hopes to strengthen cooperation with China.

The Indonesian government welcomes Chinese investors and will create a favorable environment for them, he said.

Earlier, the Premier, in talks with Widodo at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing said China is ready to deepen the overall strategic partnership with Indonesia and boost bilateral cooperation to a new level as the bilateral relationship forges ahead.

China encourages more qualified and established companies to invest in Indonesia in projects such as high-speed rail, light rail and industrial parks located near ports, he said.

Li also commended the positive role played by Indonesia, the largest member state of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, in boosting the China-ASEAN relationship.

China is willing to work together with ASEAN to maintain peace and development in East Asia, he said.

Widodo expressed Indonesia’s hopes to strengthen economic cooperation with China in areas including energy, the marine industry and tourism.

Indonesia welcomes Chinese companies to invest in infrastructure facilities such as high-speed rail and electricity as well as industrial park construction, he said.

The Indonesian president also noted Jakarta’s support for the establishment of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
