Premier Li hails China-Liberia ties

Premier Li Keqiang met with the Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf at the Great Hall of People in Beijing on Nov 5.

He said the China-Liberia relationship had seen a smooth development and mutually-beneficial cooperation continues to make progress.

The Premier said China is willing to consolidate friendship with Liberia and deepen cooperation in energy resource exploitation, wood and agricultural products processing, infrastructure construction and human resource development, assisting Liberia in its development and poverty reduction.

Serious and acute public health events are common challenges for all humanity, he said. China paid high attention to the outbreak of Ebola in West Africa and immediately offered assistance to Liberia, the Premier added.

The two peoples established a profound friendship in the joint efforts to fight Ebola, said the Premier, adding that China is glad to see Liberia won the battle against the virus and will continue to support the country in the aftermath of the epidemic.

China will also provide help to Liberia’s economic development, building of public health system as well as capacity building, said Premier Li.

President Sirleaf said China helped to lead relief efforts for the people of Liberia and drew international attention and assistance after the Ebola outbreak. China played an important role in combating the disease, she said.

China and Liberia enjoy a long friendship and witnessed great progress in bilateral cooperation, said the president.

The Liberian government pays great attention to its relationship with China and appreciates China’s help in the economic and social development of Liberia, she said.

She also noted that Liberia is at a crucial stage of reconstruction and development, adding that her country is willing to continue implementation of current cooperation projects and strengthen cooperation in the mining industry, fishery, and wood and agricultural products processing, setting a model for China-Africa cooperation.
