Premier emphasizes China-Russia development strategy integration

Premier Li Keqiang stressed integration of development strategy between China and Russia when he and his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev jointly chaired the 20th regular meeting between Chinese and Russian prime ministers in Beijing on Dec 17.

The meeting witnessed the signing of a joint communique and more than 30 cooperation documents in several areas, including energy, investment, finance, high technology, Customs, quality inspection, education and tourism.

Premier Li said that over the past 20 years the regular meeting between Chinese and Russian Prime Ministers has played an important role in promoting cooperation between China and Russia in all areas and bringing benefits to the people of the two countries, on the basis of equality, mutual benefit, and win-win relations.

“As emerging economies and the largest neighbors between each other, the development of the bilateral relations between China and Russia is significant to regional and world peace, stability and prosperity,” he said.

China is willing to make efforts with Russia to promote the integration between China’s Belt and Road initiative and Russia’s development strategy as well as the construction of Eurasian Economic Union, boosting the development of the two countries and providing new driving forces to regional and world economic development, the Premier said.

Against the backdrop of complex environment of international politics, economy, and finance, depressing price of bulk commodities, and downward pressure of major economies, China is willing to make joint efforts with Russia in mutual investment, cooperation in production capacity and equipment manufacturing, key cooperation projects, as well as the cooperation in energy resources, finance, aerospace and aviation, agriculture, military technology, and oil exploration, exploitation, and refining, he noted.

China is willing to integrate its strategies of mass entrepreneurship and innovation and “Made in China 2025” with Russia’s development strategy through 2020 to develop high-tech and innovation cooperation and establish new patterns of innovation cooperation.

Premier Li also said that efforts should be made in strengthening cultural exchanges between the two countries. On the basis of successful China-Russia Youth Friendly Exchange Year, the two countries will plan and carry out activities of China-Russia Media Exchange Year.

The Premier stressed that faced with increasing traditional and untraditional threats, China is willing to work with Russia and all other countries to cope with all kinds of risks and challenges, maintaining regional and world peace, stability, and prosperity, promoting common development and prosperity of all human beings.

Medvedev noted that development of bilateral relations and cooperation remains at a high level, exchanges of high-level officials and economic relations are getting closer. This year is the 20th anniversary of the regular meeting between Chinese and Russian prime ministers. Practices indicate this mechanism is pragmatic and effective.

Russia is willing to make joint efforts with China in reviewing achievements of bilateral relations and cooperation, planning future cooperation, exploring new cooperation patterns, strengthening cooperation in trade and investment, mineral resources, oil, natural gas, nuclear energy, aerospace and aviation, agriculture, finance, military technology, and cultural and technological exchanges, he noted.

After the meeting, the Russian prime minister laid wreaths at the Monument to People’s Heroes.
