Migrant workers should be guided toward the new economy and new industries by way of counseling and skills training, said Premier Li Keqiang while visiting the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security on May 6. He discussed the employment situation of migrant workers with staff members.
Officials said the employment situation of migrant workers in the first quarter was stable on the whole. But there are still hidden worries.
Premier Li said that the number of migrant workers absorbed by the traditional construction industry and manufacturing industry is decreasing. He suggested enhancing the use of service industry to absorb this group.
Migrant workers are encouraged to get employed near their accommodations as soon as possible, the Premier said. The industrial and spatial transformation of their employment should be promoted to improve employment quality and their household happiness, he added.
