On May 31, Premier Li Keqiang talked with Asia News Network representatives in Beijing on issues of China’s foreign policy with neighboring countries, the regional situation and China’s relations with ASEAN countries.

The representatives were media professionals from Asian countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Laos, Pakistan, Singapore and India.
Premier Li noted that Asia is one of the most dynamic and promising regions in the world and its status and role in world political and economic affairs continues to rise.
With the notion principle of “Asian affairs, covered by Asians”, Asian news institutions coordinated with each other to set up bridges for friendly cooperation among Asian countries and also between Asia and world.

The Premier said that he hopes Asia’s news media will make joint efforts to create a media environment favorable to regional and world peace, development and cooperation.
China adheres to an independent and peaceful diplomatic policy, as well as a friendly and sincere neighboring diplomacy. China will stay firmly committed to peaceful development, the Premier said.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of China-ASEAN dialogue relations. China always supports integration and community construction of ASEAN.

China is willing to strengthen political mutual trust, coordinate development strategies, expand mutual-beneficial cooperation and enhance people-to-people exchanges with ASEAN and Asian countries to send signals of regional peace and stability and joint development and build an Asian community that will benefit the people in the region, the Premier noted.
Premier Li stressed that China, as the largest developing country in the world, still has a long way to go to achieve modernization. Asian countries, as China’s friendly neighboring nations, share more common interests than differences.
China is willing to work together with Asian countries to jointly safeguard a peaceful and stable international and regional environment to enhance development, continuously expand common interests and properly deal with problems and differences in a peaceful manner through diplomatic means in an effort to build a better future for Asia.

During the meeting a media chief said that all parties have paid close attention to China’s development and will make full use of geographical advantages and play active roles to promote mutual understanding and common development among Asian countries and between Asia and the world.
The Asia News Network is composed of 21 English-language media from 19 Asian countries. This year’s annual board meeting is hosted by China Daily.
