At the designers’ creative industrial park of Zhong Hang Chang Jiang Construction Engineering Company in Nanchang, capital of East China’s Jiangxi province, on Aug 23, Premier Li Keqiang mentioned the employment issue more than 10 times during his half-hour visit.

He talked with the person in charge of the park, designers, and student interns about the employment situation.

At the industrial park, which was transformed from a traditional plant, the Premier said there were 7.65 million graduates recorded this year, and the country expects them to get employed or start businesses as soon as possible to achieve their own value and create wealth for the country.

“The government will try its best to create employment platforms and opportunities to repay the families of university graduates as they have made great efforts to cultivate the students,” Premier Li told the young entrepreneurs.

This is not the first time the Premier paid attention to the employment issue. In government work reports of the last three years, the word employment appeared 29 times, 23 times and 25 times, respectively, and he also stressed repeatedly that employment is the basis of people’s livelihood, reflection of economy and stabilizer of society.

In order to help employment, the Premier also attached great importance to makerspaces during his inspections. He praised makers in Shenzhen’s makerspace, stressed the importance of craftsmanship at the makerspace in Dalian and walked into makers’ town in Chengdu, with an effort to boost the enthusiasm of entrepreneurship and mass innovation.

At a symposium on employment attended by more than 20 leaders from ministries and commissions, Premier Li said that employment should be achieved through the market, and added, “We must expand and boost employment by taking advantage of micro and small enterprises and private enterprises.”

The designers’ creative industrial park in Nanchang is one example. It integrated the industrial chain of traditional architectural design, and has over 30 design centers, including interior and landscape designs, and created more than 200 jobs for university graduates. It also employs more than 1,000 migrant workers.

Li Wei, an entrepreneur at the park who is disabled, told the Premier that he started his career last October, and was waived rent and property management fees. Now he employs six staffers at his micro enterprise.

The State Council released a series of policies to reduce taxes for micro and small enterprises to drive employment. When he learned Li Wei also enjoyed the tax cut, the Premier stressed that tax cuts are aimed at encouraging entrepreneurs, stabilizing society, and creating more wealth for the country.
