On Aug 26, Premier Li Keqiang met with Peter Thomson, president of the 71st United Nations General Assembly session, at Zhongnanhai in Beijing.

With sluggish recovery of world economy and increasing terrorism, refugee, and geopolitical risks, the process and confidence of globalization are frustrated and unstable, and uncertain factors keep growing, according to Premier Li.

China firmly supports the United Nations as the most universal, representative and authoritative intergovernmental organization to play a strong role in coping with global threats and challenges, he said.

This year marks the 45th anniversary of restoration of the lawful seat of the People’s Republic of China. In the past 45 years, China has committed itself to maintaining the international system with the United Nations as the core, and upholding the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, the Premier said.

“Under the new situation, we will continue to uphold the authority and support the work of the United Nations, work with the rest of the world to meet global challenges, strengthen and improve global governance, promote the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and better achieve win-win outcomes for the globe,” the Premier said.

Thomson said China, as a country of great influence in the world, plays an important role in promoting global peace and sustainable development. He thanked China’s long-term, strong support on behalf of the United Nations, and looked forward to a new level of relations and cooperation with China.
