Premier Li Keqiang met with visiting Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Beijing on Aug 30.

China-Canada relations have a long tradition, and friendship between the two countries has deep roots in the hearts of both peoples, according to Premier Li.

He said since the two countries established diplomatic relations 46 years ago, their political, economic, trade and people-to-people exchanges have been deepening, and the cooperation in all fields have actually benefited people.

China has become the second-largest trading partner, import country, and export market of Canada, and the future is bright for cooperation between the two countries, said Premier Li.

Both China and Canada advocate cultural diversity, seeking common ground while accepting differences, learning from each other in promoting inclusiveness, he said, adding that China is glad to join hands with the new government of Canada to grasp new opportunities, open a new era of bilateral development to better achieve win-win cooperation.

Trudeau said his new government will carry on the traditional friendship with China, and is willing to make joint efforts to deepen the bilateral relations and comprehensive pragmatic cooperation.

He also expressed the willingness to consolidate the profound friendship to initiate new development prospects and boost the peace and prosperity of the two countries, and by extension the whole world.
