The modern government must respond to public concerns in a timely manner, Premier Li Keqiang stressed at the State Council’s sixth plenary meeting soliciting opinions on drafts of the government work report for 2017 on Jan 18, 2017.

“The ‘ministers’ passage’ must perform better than last year,” said Premier Li. “And the government should maintain close communication with society.”

The “ministers’ passage”, a 100-meter stretch of red carpet at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, got its name for journalists’ quick interviews with ministers during the annual “two sessions”. Last year, the passage became a very important venue for ministers’ voices and gained public praise.

“Both the achievements and existing problems should be spoken about. No response should be off limits,” Premier Li said, underlining the “ministers’ passage” this year.

The annual two sessions is a key occasion to release signals, guide expectations and enhance morale, the Premier said.

Ministries must consider public needs and market expectations while creating policy measures, the Premier added.
