The government should respond to public concerns in a timely manner, and when responding, do so in a detailed manner, Premier Li Keqiang said at the State Council executive meeting on Feb 3.

He urged authorities to give open, timely and detailed feedback to suggestions and proposals concerning public interest.

These suggestions and proposals from lawmakers and political advisors will benefit the development of public policies, the Premier said.

In 2016, China’s economy experienced a tough but successful year in that it remained stable in an uncertain international context. “We should work harder this year,” he said.

The Premier took the smog issue as an example, saying that the government should research on its scientific causes and develop control measures, and publish related information in a way that is easy to understand.

As to another hot issue concerning enterprises’ burdens, Premier Li said that some enterprises have to pay hundreds types of taxes and fees each year, which is too heavy. “This year, we should make more effort to address the issue to reduce institutional costs,” he added.

The Premier asked related departments to review the hot issues, take prompt measures and make active responses to the public to keep social expectations stable.
