Premier Li meets Myanmar president in Beijing

Premier Li Keqiang met visiting Myanmar President U Htin Kyaw on April 10 in Beijing.

China and Myanmar have enjoyed a close relationship and friendship. And your meeting with President Xi Jinping has achieved great results, vigorously pushing forward the development of bilateral relationship and cooperation, Premier Li said.

He added that China supports Myanmar’s development path featuring its own national conditions and is willing to keep frequent high-level exchanges and boost exchanges of all levels and bilateral cooperation in various fields, in an effort to inject new vitality into the development of China-Myanmar relations.

The two countries are highly complementary in their economies, which indicates great prospects for bilateral cooperation. Along with Myanmar, China is willing to strengthen the alignment of development strategies and further expand common interests, the Premier said.

He also urged promoting major construction projects and enhancing coordinative communication under cooperation frameworks, such as China-ASEAN and Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC), with the aim of benefiting the two nations and boosting regional cooperation and development.

Premier Li also stressed that regional stability and peace in Northern Myanmar is closely related to the security of the Southwestern area of China. China hopes to avoid any latent safety issues that have a negative impact on China’s regional peace and the border’s security. China willingly continues to contribute to Myanmar’s regional reconciliation and peace, he added.

U Htin Kyaw said that China and Myanmar are good friends who both respect each other, and the mutual cooperation has achieved great results.

Since the founding of Myanmar’s new government, top exchanges between the two countries have been kept, which greatly boosted bilateral relations, he said. He added that Myanmar highly appreciates China’s efforts in promoting mutual friendly cooperation, and showed great appreciation for China’s long-term moral and supplies assistance.

Myanmar is glad to work with China to strengthen cooperation in infrastructure, agriculture, and people’s livelihoods, and promote the construction of key projects, such as the Kyaukpyu Special Economic Zone in Rakhine State, the president said.

He also promised to give full support to secure the stability of China-Myanmar border areas, and said that he hopes China will continuously support domestic peace in Myanmar.
