In a meeting with Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on May 16, Premier Li Keqiang said China is willing to carry out cooperation projects with Sri Lanka under market rules.

The Premier hoped that Sri Lanka can create a sound environment on legislation, policy, security and public opinions for Colombo Port City, Hambantota Port, logistics and industry parks, and other projects.

Wickremesinghe was in Beijing to attend the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

Premier Li also hoped that, as China-Sri Lanka ties are developing, both countries can promote cooperation on trade, investment, infrastructure and capacity based on each other’s competitive advantages.

He said China and its neighboring countries share a common destiny, so the cooperation between China and Sri Lanka will not only benefit their people, but also help make Asia a new engine of the world economy and maintain regional peace and stability.

Wickremesinghe appreciated the progressing bilateral ties and big cooperation projects between the two sides. He said Sri Lanka is willing to work with China to create a positive environment for Chinese investment, accelerate major projects, and promote industrial capacity cooperation.

He also hoped that the bilateral cooperation can benefit Sri Lanka’s industrialization and regional connection, bringing win-win results to both sides.

The two leaders witnessed the signing of several bilateral cooperation documents on economy, technology, investment, and other sectors.

State Councilor Yang Jing also attended the meeting.
