Premier Li Keqiang met with Brazilian President Michel Temer in Beijing on Sept 1. Temer is in China for a state visit and will attend the BRICS Xiamen Summit in China’s southeastern coastal city of Xiamen in Fujian province.

Premier Li said as both nations are major developing countries and emerging economies, China and Brazil maintained a stable and healthy development in relationship, which has achieved fruitful results and promoted peace and prosperity in regions and the world at large.

The successful meeting held between President Xi Jinping and Temer has greatly promoted further development of bilateral ties, he added.

The Premier said China was willing to work with Brazil to consolidate political mutual trust, expand pragmatic cooperation, increase people-to-people exchanges, and keep close coordination under the G20 and BRICS frameworks, in order to advance further development of China-Brazil ties, as well as ties with Latin American countries.

Premier Li said there was also a huge potential for China-Brazil pragmatic cooperation.

“The Chinese market is open to the world,” he said, adding he hoped the two sides could make joint efforts to optimize trade structure and promote balanced development of bilateral trade based on two-way opening.

Premier Li also welcomed Brazil to import more competitive Chinese products.

“The Chinese government supports competitive Chinese enterprises to invest in Brazil, and hopes to continue to implement and promote capacity cooperation in key areas and push forward all-around cooperation in infrastructure construction, electricity, equipment manufacturing, agriculture, energy resources, tourism and sports, to achieve win-win results,” he said.

Temer said the relationship between China and Brazil has developed well.

“The two sides share a commitment to strengthening cooperation and have the common view on major international issues, such as opposing protectionism and tackling climate changes,” he said.

“Brazil hopes to join hands with China in deepening cooperation in the fields including agriculture, aviation and energy resources, boosting investment cooperation, improving people-to-people exchanges in areas such as tourism and sports, and promoting friendship between both peoples.”

Temer also welcomed Chinese enterprises to invest and develop businesses in Brazil.
