China proposes formulating a 2030 Vision for China-ASEAN Strategic Partnership, said Premier Li Keqiang at the 20th China-ASEAN (10+1) leaders’ meeting on Nov 13 in Manila, the Philippines.

The Premier said that ASEAN countries have reached a consensus that the relationship between China and ASEAN contains the most vitality among ASEAN’s various dialogue partnerships.

China was the first to join the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, the earliest to establish strategic partnership and launch negotiation over a free trade zone with ASEAN.

“Upholding good-neighborliness and friendliness, we can handle controversies through dialogues and maintain our bilateral relations on the right track,” the Premier added.

Premier Li said next year marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the China-ASEAN strategic partnership, and it is necessary to make long-term planning for development of the ties.

China proposes formulating a 2030 Vision for the China-ASEAN Strategic Partnership and upgrading the 2+7 Cooperation Framework toward the 3+X Cooperation Framework. The nation also wants to build a new cooperation framework based on the three pillars — political security, economy and trade, and people-to-people exchanges, which will be extended to various fields.

There is huge potential for China-ASEAN cooperation, the Premier said. The two sides are fully capable of handling differences and keeping the ties running soundly and steadily, boosting the confidence of the market and the world in China-ASEAN relations, he added.
