Premier Li Keqiang met with a delegation led by Yohei Kono, president of the Japanese Association for the Promotion of International Trade, on April 9 in Beijing.

China-Japan relations in recent days have maintained a good momentum, with many positive interactions carried on between the two countries. Still, there exist some challenges, Premier Li said.

He called on the two sides to cherish the good momentum, hold onto their forward-looking vision, and create a favorable environment to turn high-level exchanges and bilateral relations back on the right track.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the China-Japan Peace and Friendship Treaty, said the Premier, who expects Japan to stick to the principles inscribed in the four political documents, review the spirit contained in them, safeguard the political foundation for China-Japan ties, and center on the interests and welfare of people of the two countries, to improve the bilateral relations in the right direction.

Premier Li stressed that under the current complicated and ever-changing international situation, China advocates multilateralism, and supports efforts to maintain the multilateral trade system and to promote liberalization and facilitation of trade and investment.

Meanwhile, China will go on with its reform and open the door wider to the world than ever before, he added.

China will perform well to keep the stable and good momentum of the Chinese economy, and welcome foreign investment from other countries, including Japan, for development and win-win cooperation, the Premier said.

Kono said this year is of great significance, for it is the 40th anniversary of the signing of the China-Japan Peace and Friendship Treaty, and the commencement of China’s reform and opening-up.

Japan’s business circles welcome continuous improvement in China-Japan relations, and are willing to make contributions to China-Japan friendship, said Kono, who also conveyed the hope for Premier Li to pay an official visit to Japan and attend the China-Japan-ROK leaders meeting.
