Premier stresses high-level friendship, cooperation between China and Cambodia

Premier Li Keqiang held talks with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, who is on an official visit to China, at the Great Hall of the People on Jan 22.

China and Cambodia enjoy profound traditional friendship, and relations and cooperation between the two countries have made great progress, the Premier said, adding that the seeds of China-Cambodia friendship are deeply rooted in the two peoples.

Noting the cordial and friendly talks between President Xi Jinping and Hun Sen, Premier Li said that China is willing to join hands with Cambodia to inject new impetus to the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Cambodia on the basis of mutual respect, equality, and mutual benefit.

China will firmly support Cambodia’s development path in line with its national conditions, and is willing to synergize the Belt and Road Initiative with Cambodia’s development strategy, the Premier promised.

The Premier also said the Chinese government supports its enterprises taking part in the construction and operation of Cambodia’s production capacity, transportation, electricity and other infrastructure, and hoped that Cambodia will provide necessary convenience.

He also hoped that China and Cambodia would make joint efforts to build major cooperation projects, including the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone, and hold the China-Cambodia Cultural Tourism Year event, while strengthening communication and coordination under the framework of China-ASEAN cooperation and Lancang-Mekong cooperation.

China will continue to provide assistance to Cambodia in accelerating its development and improving its people’s livelihoods, the Premier added.

Hun Sen said China is Cambodia’s close partner, and the Cambodian side sends congratulations on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and feels proud of the remarkable achievements that China has achieved through reform and opening-up during the past four decades.

The Cambodian side extended appreciation for the long-term and firm support and assistance provided by China and is willing to consolidate its traditional relationship with China, to continue to deepen cooperation in fields such as infrastructure facilities, production capacity, economy and trade, agriculture and people’s livelihoods, Hun Sen said.

He also expressed hope that the two sides would increase cultural exchanges, and strengthen cooperation in international and regional issues, to promote further development of China-Cambodia comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation.

Both leaders witnessed the signing of several bilateral cooperative documents after the meeting.

State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Vice-Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Wan Gang, and Director of the National Development and Reform Commission He Lifeng also attended the activities.
