Li arrives in Zurich for Davos forum and Switzerland visit

Premier Li Keqiang arrives in Zurich on Jan 20 to attend the World Economic Forum annual meeting 2015 in Davos, Switzerland, and also pay a working visit to the country.

Upon his arrival for a visit slated till Jan 22, Premier Li said the Davos forum is dedicated to advocating dialogue and communication, consolidating consensus among the international community, and discussing how to tackle global challenges.

The forum “plays an important role in building a global governance system”, he said, adding that he looks forward to “in-depth exchanges with people from all walks of life attending the meeting”.

The Premier said the topics of his interactions will be related to the global and Chinese economies, the international and regional situation, and China’s reform and opening up as well as common issues of concern.

He called for joint efforts in “ensuring world peace and stability, and promoting the robust, sustainable and balanced growth of global economy”.

On ties between China and Switzerland, the Premier said the relationship has witnessed an “extraordinary 65 years”, and he looks forward to exchanging opinions with Swiss leaders on the bilateral relationship and matters of common concern.

He said he pins hope on the visit to consolidate the traditional friendship, expand cooperation, and continue to realize the benefits of the bilateral free trade agreement.

The Premier said he also expects to “make finance a new highlight of the bilateral cooperative agenda” and make sure the relationship “better benefits peoples of both sides”.

Senior officials of the Swiss federal government, Chinese Ambassador to Switzerland Xu Jinghu, Chinese Ambassador to the United Nations Office in Geneva Wu Hailong and Chinese Ambassador to the World Trade Organization Yu Jianhua greeted Li at the airport.

During the Davos meeting, Li will deliver a keynote speech and meet representatives of the International Business Council as well as forum chairman Klaus Schwab.

On the sidelines of the annual meeting, Li will also hold bilateral meetings with some leaders from other countries.

During his working visit to Switzerland, Li will hold talks with President of the Swiss Confederation Simonetta Sommaruga.

The two countries are expected to announce a range of agreements in finance, scientific research, culture, food and pharmaceuticals.
