During a visit to Liluo, Guizhou province, in southwestern China, Premier Li Keqiang prepared instant noodles for migrant workers who were returning home to the countryside for the traditional Spring Festival. He also called for more efforts to provide assistance that addresses the individual needs and concerns of migrant workers.

At an expressway service station for migrant workers on Feb 14, Li peeled off paper cover of a bowl, poured in boiled water — and everyone could immediately smell the appetizing noodles with pickled cabbage.

“This is a taste of your hometown, which is calling you to return home as quickly as possible,” Li told the migrant workers, including a man named Wu Qi.

Li said that China is accelerating urbanization and the government is doing its utmost to help migrant workers from the western part of the country find jobs close to their hometowns.

He met migrant workers resting at the service station, which provides services such as complimentary drinking water, tea, instant noodles, advice on legal affairs and information on job vacancies — all free of charge.

Li said that such stations provide services- on behalf of the government — to assist migrant workers heading back to their hometowns, and he called on the stations to offer more assistance to make the workers “feel warm inside their hearts.”
